St. Theresa 93rd Annual Pilgrimage in Wakaw
A large attendance of mosaic blend of multi - cultural Pilgrims united in one day of Worship in Honor of St, Theresa at Wakaw Roman Catholic Church on Sunday, June 11, 2017.
The hospitality table was set up at the entrance of the church. Committee members warmly greeted the pilgrims and outlined the day agenda. The “Way of the Cross” outdoor procession started the tone of the day for the Pilgrimage. Talk I presented by Fr. Millan Sajonas, whose theme was ‘Discipleship.” His talk was very inspiring as he drew audience participation. Talk II, was followed by His Excellency Bishop Albert Thevenot, M. Afr. He opened his talk, holding a red Rose flower and how it reflects the symbol of” Love”. Bishop Albert captured the audience attentiveness. He ended his talk about his visit to Rome and his visit with Pope Francis.
Following the presentations, a lovely buffet luncheon was enjoyed by all, in the downstairs hall. Some enjoyed fellowship while others browsed in the religious article store. Others had the opportunity for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, while others continued their own private devotions.
More pilgrims from outlying parishes arrived in time to participate in the afternoon celebrations. The large crowd gathered at the outdoor Altar on the Mound church grounds being graced with singing birds harmoniously blending with the choir.
The Pontifical Eucharistic celebration was led his Excellency Bishop Albert Thevenot, and concelebrated with Parish Priest Father Phong Tran and visiting priests: Father Maurice Fiolleau, Father Ramell Macapalla, Father Phin Do and Father Colin Roy. Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus; Joe Habetler and Joe MacLeod stood Honor Guard. Emcee Allan Burynuik warmly welcomed all present and ably MC’d the afternoon program.
The Mass was spiritually uplifting. We were blessed to witness three young confirmands, namely Allison Frie, Tanner Fiddler and Preston Gaudet receive the Sacrament of “Confirmation” with His Excellency Bishop Albert Thevenot. This was an awe-inspiring moment.
An impressive procession of roses, symbolic of a “love offering” in gratitude to St. Theresa, for her example to the world, made its way to the altar. The participants in the procession were seven Philippine pilgrims from the Prince Albert Diocese., who are faithful return pilgrims each year.
Following the Mass, pilgrims came forward to receive healing prayers and Blessing from Bishop Albert and priests. There were some in wheelchairs, walkers and others with visible evidence in need of healing. Love, peace and joy permeated the atmosphere as younger family members assisted the elderly to go forward to receive the healing prayers. Many pilgrims were touched as silent tears slipped down their cheeks. This was followed by the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and then a line of procession of pilgrims back into the church for Adoration.
Everyone was invited to partake of refreshments in the downstairs auditorium, where more fellowship concluded the “Spirit filled “day. We invite you to join us on October 1, 2017 for the Feast day of St. Theresa celebrations. We also hope to see you back next year on June 10, 2018 for our 94d Annual pilgrimage.
