Post-Christmas Concert

By Paula Fournier

PRINCE ALBERT – Parishioners from five deaneries gathered as one diocesan choir to perform during the January 7 concert at the E.A. Rawlinson Centre in Prince Albert to celebrate the season of Christmas.

The idea was initiated and lead by Rev. Alberto Dela Pena, newly appointed Director of Liturgy and parish priest to Our Lady of Consolation Parish, Melfort.

Rev. Alberto shared that he was inspired by the Priest’s Retreat which takes place annually with the Bishop. He felt a spirit of openness among the group, and his way of expressing his joy was through music.

His choice of repertoire came from his background in the Philippines such as teaching school music programs, parish music ministry, and the Dominican College in Ottawa, ON. One practice a month to the five deaneries started in September. Seventy choir members participated in singing for the concert.

After such a large endeavour, he anticipates the next concert will occur within five years
