St. Odilon World Youth Day Fundraising Tournament For Seminarian

Submitted by Patricia Keefe

On Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, St. Odilon World Youth Day Fundraising Team hosted a volleyball tournament at Waldheim School to raise funds for German Alegria, a seminarian from the R. C. Diocese of Prince Albert, to attend World Youth Day in Spain 2011.

The tournament was very successful with six teams taking part. The teams consisted of two families from Rosthern and Saskatoon, Cana Family Camp, Diocesan Youth Council, Ste. Solange Parish in Hafford and a priest’s team consisting of several priests and members of the Diocesan staff.

Bishop Albert Thévenot and Rev. Carlos Moreno, pss from the St. Joseph Seminary in Edmonton, AB stopped in to cheer on the players and enjoy a delicious taco salad. The Brockman Family from St. Odilon, Rosthern won the tournament with the Diocesan Youth Council winning second place. The profits from team registrations and earnings from the Corn Chowder and Taco Salad will be used to help sponsor German Alegria. A great time was had by all and most of the players felt muscles they hadn’t used in a while, but would gladly do it again in a heartbeat.
