Living Our Faith & Being God’s Family

We often hear our pastors refer to us as “brothers and sisters in Christ, the family of God”. What we do not hear often enough is why membership in God’s family is so special.

There are two reasons, holiness and happiness. We are asked to be holy, to be like Jesus and the saints. And where does a life of holiness lead, not just to happiness, but to eternal happiness.

But there is something else about being a member of a family that we tend to forget when we talk about God’s family. Namely , that being a member of a family does not end when you are no longer in the family.

The same applies to being the Family of God. It does not end when we leave the church after Sunday mass. It is about Living Our Faith beyond the walls of the church, in our home, our workplace and our communities; in everything that we do.

Being a member of God’s family means accepting that we have been gifted by God to be unique, to do what no one else can do. It is about celebrating genuine success which celebrates our accomplishments instead of our possessions.

It is about Living our Faith by offering hospitality, practicing justice, charity, humility and other good works for the benefit of all. It is about being grateful for the gifts we have been given by God and offering them as a sign of our love for God.

It is also about sharing the Holiness and Happiness that comes from a relationship with God with other; about spreading the Good News.

Your contributions to the Bishop’s Appeal support activities, programs and events directed at helping people rediscover Christ and to experience the joy of being a member of God’s Family.
